Opening of JeremyHarveyRC.com

rc.jpgI’ve been wanting to put together an inspirational website for quite some time. Life’s priorities have always taken precedence over doing fun and nerdy things such as this, but today the tide has turned and one of my life long dreams is now come reality. JeremyHarveyRC.com is official.

I was born with a rare birth defect called Phocomelia Syndrome, I’m one in millions to say the least. As you can see from the picture of me in the page banner my arms are rather short with three fingers on each hand. My shoulder sockets are turned inside out and I lack the physical strength most possess. So what to do with it? Sit around and have a pity party, or take life by the balls? I choose to take life by the balls. Notice I didn’t say chose (which is past tense). For me, it’s a daily choice I make when I sit on the side of my bed every morning. My body aches as I feel the gravitational force of my bed pulling me back underneath the blankets. I rarely succumb to the comfort, but instead I stand up and make the choice once again to get dressed, brush my teeth, eat breakfast, drive to school, do my homework and fly RC Helicopters…

Ah!! That’s it! Fly RC Helicopters… That’s a choice too and one that hasn’t come easily. I fly alone 95% of the time. I do my own builds, repairs and setups. Do I like it? I LOVE IT! I’ve never ran across anything in my life so challenging and yet so rewarding. It may take me five times longer to build a heli and I may eat BC Powder to kill the pain in my back, shoulders and hands, but it’s sheer joy when I get to pull on the sticks and see my creation soar through the air…. enjoy the fruit of my labor.

Does this mean I’m special?…. In all honesty I don’t think so, because we all have to make the choice. The choice to get out of bed. The choice to get dressed, The choice to go to work or school. It’s always about the choice, in spite of our circumstances, and the rewards that await for us at the end of our hard work. I know you have the strength and courage to make the right choice, to chase after your goals and dreams. Nothing is to hard or to out of reach if you always remember to simply make the choice and work hard towards your goal.

I hope your inspired by the thoughts of inspiration, stories of adventures, and that you enjoy visiting my little corner on the web.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Harvey

  12. aucmax Says:

I remember when I first took a glance at your avatar many moons ago and thought to myself…. is this for real? There is something about his arms that do not look normal. Well, now I know. You remind me of the great Itzhak Perlman. A man who sat all his life in a wheelchair and became one of the greatest violinists the modern day has ever known. Kudos to you. And you are so very right about determination. If you do not give up, you cannot fail! But it is so easy to give up sometimes. I almost did. And if I did not hold a good job, I would have never been able to afford to carry on. Many do not have that option so I guess that the Lord has blessed (cursed) me? Ha Ha. Good Luck and again your site is an inspiration to all to aspire to be “humble and loved”…and determined to succeed no matter what obstacles lay ahead.

    God Bless,

    Brett

    Jeremy
i will be bookmarking your site.. it is nice to see others that on a daily basis deal with things that others folks can just do without even thinking about it.. I have an autoimmune disease called ankylosing spondylitis (http://www.bing.com/health/article.aspx?id=articles%2fmc%2fpages%2f1%2fDS00483.html&q=ankylosing+spondylitis) for those of you who are unsure of what that is

This is a life long thing and normally if caught early enough it can be halted.. in my case it was found after an injury that occured while i was at work.. but it was to late.. the vast majority of the damage has been done and long story short.. i am unable to perform the job in which i went to school for, RN.

i used to run RC cars.. but it got to the point where i just couldnt do it, the pain was to much.. and i have found that helis are the perfect hobby .. it gets me out of the house the only thing that did that before was visit to the doc. i get some strange looks as i need to take a stool with me to the field to fly, i cant stand for more than a min or two without severe pain .. most of the guys at the field are aware of my situation and they seem to eagerly ask me if there is anything they can carry..

In short i understand what it means to get busy living or get busy dieing.. and its the little things such as a succesfull hover and bringing the bird home in one piece that for me.. really makes life a pleasure..

thanks for your site.. i will visit often

Thanks so much for the interview time and your inspiration as well!
My son was born with a “1 in 10mil” brain defect (Septo-Optic Dysplasia) as well and I know it’s hard. What we have seen even at the age of 1 is that he can overcome things and it gives us the strength to keep going! Stories like yours are always enjoyable and felt!

Keep up the great work man!
